Electric Shower Repair & Replacement Dublin
Cold showers, weak flow or a unit that keeps tripping the power are all signs that an electric shower has reached the end of its working life. Our electric shower replacement service in Dublin either repairs the existing unit or fits a suitable new one on your existing supply, whichever makes more sense for your shower.
All the common brands are covered, including Triton and Mira. We repair showers where a repair is worthwhile and replace them where it isn't. The one thing outside this service is fitting an electric shower in a bathroom that never had one.
We look after homes, rentals, B&Bs, gyms and workplaces throughout Dublin. In addition, our area reaches Leixlip, Maynooth and Celbridge over in Co. Kildare, so those towns get the same service.

When an Electric Shower Replacement Is Due
- water that won't get hot, or swings between hot and cold
- much weaker flow than it used to have
- the shower tripping the fuse board or the pull-cord switch
- a burning smell or scorch marks on the casing
- water leaking from the unit, not just the hose
- buttons or dials that no longer respond
- a cracked or discoloured cover
Any sign of burning, scorching or melting means you should stop using the shower. Switch it off at the isolator straight away and call us.
Most electric showers last many years. However, heavy use and limescale shorten their life. When an older unit starts failing, replacement is usually quicker, safer and more reliable than trying to keep it going.
Also, keep an eye on the pull-cord switch. If it feels warm, clicks loosely or shows discolouration, mention it when you call. Although the switch is an electrical part, it tells us a lot about how hard the shower has been working, and it may need an electrician's attention alongside the electric shower replacement.
Repair or Replace Your Electric Shower?
We repair electric showers, but a repair isn't always the best value. Three things decide it:
- Age: a newer shower with one failed part is usually worth repairing, while an older unit may soon fail elsewhere.
- Parts: spares for older or discontinued models can be hard to find, and sometimes they cost nearly as much as a new shower.
- Visits: the repair itself is often quick. First, though, we diagnose the fault, then collect the part from a supplier or order it if it isn't in stock, and come back to fit it. Depending on the part, that can happen the same day or take a few days.
A replacement, by contrast, is usually finished in a single visit. The new shower also comes with fresh seals, a new heating element, modern safety cut-outs and a manufacturer's warranty.
So we give you both options and the likely cost of each, then you decide. For many older units, a replacement turns out quicker and cheaper than chasing parts.
Understanding Shower Power Ratings
Electric showers are rated in kilowatts, typically from about 7.5 kW up to 10.5 kW. A higher rating heats more water, which gives a stronger flow in winter.
However, the rating must match the circuit that feeds the shower. The cable, the fuse or breaker and the isolating switch are all sized for a particular load. Fitting a more powerful shower on a circuit designed for a smaller one can overload the wiring.
So, when we replace a shower, we match the new unit to the existing rating. If you want a more powerful model, a registered electrical contractor must first check the circuit and upgrade it if needed.
You may find the rating on a label on the side of the unit. Please don't remove the cover to look for it: a photo of the shower is enough, and we'll check the rating on site.
As a rule of thumb, most households find a 9.5 kW shower gives comfortable flow all year. Nevertheless, the right choice always depends on what your existing circuit supports, and that's what guides our choice.
Like-for-Like Electric Shower Replacement
The simplest swap uses a new shower that fits the same space and connections as the old one. Three details decide how easy that is:
- Water entry: the cold supply can enter from the top, bottom, side or rear
- Cable entry: the electrical supply also enters at a set point
- Fixing holes: the position of the screws on the wall
Many modern showers accept water and cables from several directions, which makes replacement straightforward. Some manufacturers even design models to cover the marks and holes left by older units.
Where the new unit is a little smaller than the old one, you may see the outline of the previous shower on the tiles. We'll point this out before we start, and we can suggest models that cover the area better.
Planning these details in advance is what makes a replacement quick and tidy.
For example, if the old supply pipe enters from below and the new shower only accepts it from the top, the pipe needs rerouting. We plan for that before the visit, so there are no surprises on the day.
Triton Electric Shower Replacement
Triton models are among the most common electric showers in Irish homes.
Triton and Mira have made dozens of models over the years, and each uses its own internal parts. No plumber can carry spares for all of them. So after diagnosing the fault, we pick up the correct part from a supplier, or order it, and then return to fit it.
When replacing a Triton, the model name on the front helps us identify the connection layout and choose a suitable replacement. In many cases, a current Triton model fits the existing position with little or no change to the pipework.
If your old Triton has been discontinued, we compare water entry, cable entry and fixing points to find a modern equivalent. Sometimes that's another Triton. Other times, a different brand fits better.
Because Triton is so widespread, a Triton replacement is often the simplest job of all, with parts and replacement models easy to find.
You're welcome to buy the replacement yourself. Alternatively, we can supply a suitable model. In both cases, a quick picture of the current unit lets us confirm the match.
Mira Electric Shower Replacement
Mira is the other brand we see most often in Dublin bathrooms. Its electric showers range from simple models to units with digital controls.
As with Triton, the model name and power rating guide the job. For repairs, they tell us which part to order; for replacements, which new unit fits. Newer Mira showers often offer flexible water and cable entry points, which helps when replacing an older unit.
A Mira replacement usually takes a couple of hours. We isolate the power and water, remove the old unit, fit the new one and test it thoroughly.
If you're switching from Mira to another brand, or the other way around, we'll check that the new model suits the space, the supply and your preferences for controls and spray patterns.
Mira's digital and thermostatic electric models also offer steadier temperatures. So if family members complain about sudden hot or cold bursts, a newer model can make a real difference.
Other Brands We Replace
Besides Triton and Mira, we regularly replace electric showers from Redring, Gainsborough, Bristan, Aqualisa and other manufacturers.
Older and less common brands can be harder to match, especially when the company has stopped making showers. In those cases, we measure the existing unit and its connection points, then suggest a current model from a well-supported brand.
Choosing a brand with good spare parts availability makes sense for the future. It means shower heads, hoses and riser rails are easy to replace, even if the unit itself outlasts its warranty.
Whatever the brand, the process stays the same: match the rating, match the connections and test before leaving.
Water Pressure and Flow
Most electric showers heat cold water drawn straight from the mains. They need a minimum pressure and flow to work properly, and the manufacturer lists these in the installation guide.
If your mains pressure is low, the shower may cut out, run too hot or give a weak spray. Before replacing a shower, we check that the supply meets the new unit's requirements.
Weak flow isn't always a shower fault. A blocked shower head, a partly closed isolation valve or a restricted supply pipe can cause the same symptoms. We check these first, because a new shower won't fix a supply problem.
Therefore, a good replacement always starts at the tap, not the wall: we confirm the supply before the old unit comes off.
Where pressure across the house is poor, our pump services page explains what can be done.
How Our Electric Shower Replacement in Dublin Works
- Check: we confirm the power rating, water supply and connection positions.
- Isolate: we switch off the shower circuit and turn off the water.
- Remove: the old shower comes off the wall, and we check the pipe and fixings.
- Fit: we mount the new shower, connect the water and reconnect the existing supply.
- Seal: we make sure water can't get behind the unit.
- Test: we run the shower on every setting and check for leaks and correct temperature.
A straightforward replacement usually takes two to three hours. Before we leave, we show you the controls and how to look after the new shower.
Where the job turns out to need electrical changes, such as a new circuit or a higher-rated cable, we stop and explain. A registered electrical contractor must carry out that part. For more on electrical safety at home, see Safe Electric.
Leaks and Limescale
Water dripping from the shower head after use is often normal, since some water stays in the hose and head. A steady leak from the unit itself, however, is not.
Early action matters here. Water inside an electric shower is a safety risk, so a leak from the case always calls for a proper repair or a replacement rather than a temporary fix.
Leaks from the hose or head usually mean a worn washer or a split hose, which are simple to replace. A leak from inside the shower case points to a failed internal part. Depending on the shower's age and whether parts are available, we either repair it or recommend a replacement.
Limescale also affects electric showers. It blocks the spray plate, reduces flow and makes the heater work harder. Cleaning the shower head regularly helps. If the spray becomes uneven, soak the head in a mild descaling solution or replace it.
Looking after these small parts helps a new unit last, and it keeps your next replacement a long way off.
Also, avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive pads on the shower case. Instead, a soft cloth and mild cleaner protect the plastic and the controls.
Electric Shower Replacement Dublin for Landlords and Apartments
A failed shower is one of the most urgent complaints tenants raise, so landlords want a quick, dependable replacement.
Landlords and letting agents. Snap the current shower and its rating sticker and pass the images on to us. We confirm a suitable replacement, arrange access with the tenant and send confirmation once the work is done.
Management companies. We replace showers in individual apartments and in shared facilities, such as residents' gyms.
Tenants. If the shower smells of burning, trips the power or leaks from the case, stop using it and report it straight away.
For landlords with several properties, standardising on one reliable model makes future replacements faster and simpler. As a result, a future replacement can often be completed within a day of the tenant's call.
Commercial Electric Shower Replacement
Gyms, sports clubs, hotels, B&Bs and workplaces with staff changing rooms put electric showers through heavy daily use. When one fails, it affects customers, guests or staff straight away.
In factories, warehouses and on industrial sites, welfare showers matter for hygiene and safety. We replace failed units with robust models suited to frequent use.
In gyms and clubs, we usually replace showers early in the morning or late in the evening, when changing rooms are quiet.
Where a building has several showers of the same age, planning their replacement together avoids a series of breakdowns. We can also work outside opening hours, so facilities stay available during busy periods.
Moreover, commercial units with vandal-resistant covers and simple controls tend to last longer in busy changing rooms. We can recommend suitable models for your site.
Company invoices can be settled by any of our usual methods, and we'll provide paperwork for your records if needed.
Electric Shower FAQs
How long does an electric shower replacement take?
Usually two to three hours for a like-for-like swap on an existing supply.
Can you fit a more powerful shower?
Only if the existing circuit can carry it. Otherwise, a registered electrical contractor needs to upgrade the circuit first.
Do you supply the new shower?
Yes. We can source a suitable model for you. Alternatively, buy your own, and we'll check the rating and connections match before fitting.
Do you repair electric showers?
Yes, when it makes sense. Newer showers with available parts are often worth repairing. On older units, replacement is often quicker and cheaper, because after diagnosis the part usually has to be collected or ordered, which means a return visit.
More Questions About Electric Showers
Can you install an electric shower where there wasn't one before?
No. A bathroom without an existing electric shower needs its own dedicated circuit, and that's a job for an electrician. We repair and replace existing units.
Is it safe to keep using a shower that trips the power?
No. Switch it off at the isolator, don't use it and call us to check it.
Will the new shower cover the marks left by the old one?
Often, yes. Some models are designed to cover older fixing holes. We'll suggest options before we start.
Do you cover Co. Kildare?
Yes. Beyond Dublin, we replace electric showers in Leixlip, Maynooth and Celbridge.
