24 Hour Plumber Dublin

Pipes rarely burst at a convenient time. That's why our 24 hour plumber in Dublin takes calls through the night, at weekends and on every bank holiday. When you ring at 1am, a plumber answers, not a voicemail box.

This page covers what happens on an out-of-hours call. You'll find which faults need someone straight away, what to do in the first few minutes, how night-time pricing works and what we can fix before morning.

For our full range of daytime work, see the plumbing services page.

Faults That Need a 24 Hour Plumber in Dublin

Some problems simply can't wait until the morning. Ring us straight away for:

  • Burst or split pipes, often in attics, hot presses and under floors
  • Water through a ceiling, particularly near light fittings
  • A flexi hose that has let go under a sink or behind a toilet
  • An overflowing cistern that won't stop, even after flushing
  • A leaking heater or pump sitting close to sockets or wiring
  • No water at all while the neighbours still have supply
  • The only toilet blocked in a busy household or business

A dripping tap or a slow-filling cistern, on the other hand, can usually wait for a daytime slot. If you're not sure, describe it on the phone. We'll tell you honestly whether it needs a visit tonight.

The First Ten Minutes

What you do before we arrive can halve the damage. Work through these steps if it's safe:

  1. Find the nearest valve. Look on the pipe feeding the leaking tap, toilet or appliance. A quarter turn with a flat screwdriver usually closes it.
  2. Use the stopcock if needed. Most Dublin homes have one under the kitchen sink. Some older houses have it in the hall, under the stairs or by the front step.
  3. Open the cold taps after a burst pipe, so the water left in the system drains away.
  4. Kill the power to anything wet, provided the fuse board sits well away from the leak.
  5. Take a photo or video for us and for your insurer.

If a valve won't budge, leave it. Forcing an old stopcock can snap it, which turns a leak into a flood. Instead, tell us when you call and we'll suggest another option.

While you wait, move rugs, electronics and documents out of the water's path. We can fix the pipe, but nobody can fix soaked paperwork.

In an apartment, the leak may be coming from the unit above. Knock on their door or contact the management company, because the valve that stops it may be in their flat.

24 Hour Plumber for Leaks and Burst Pipes

Stopping the water. On arrival, our priority is to cut off the water. We isolate the damaged section rather than the whole house wherever possible. That way, you keep water in the kitchen and at least one bathroom.

Making a proper repair. Next, we cut out the split pipe and fit a new section. The van carries copper, plastic and multilayer fittings, so most repairs are complete before we leave. When wider corrosion caused the failure, we fix the leak tonight and then explain whether more of the run needs replacing later.

Checking before we go. Finally, we restore the water slowly and watch every joint under pressure. Nobody should be left with a repair that weeps at breakfast time.

The burst pipe repairs page has further detail.

24 hour plumber in Dublin repairing a toilet cistern at night

Toilets, Taps and Waste Pipes Out of Hours

Overflowing or Blocked Toilets

Toilet and tap faults make up a large share of the calls we receive after 10pm.

A cistern that keeps running into the overflow usually has a failed fill valve, which we replace on the spot. We also clear blockages in the pan, because a household with one toilet can't wait until Monday.

Taps That Won't Turn Off

When a tap sticks open or a cartridge fails, we can often isolate it and fit a new cartridge straight away. If the tap is beyond saving, we frequently carry a suitable replacement, so the kitchen or bathroom works again tonight.

Leaking Traps and Waste Joints

Water under the sink often comes from the waste rather than the supply. Loose traps and cracked waste fittings are quick to fix, and doing it now stops the unit base from swelling.

Hot Water and Shower Failures

Leaking water heaters. Undersink and oversink heaters, as well as immersion heaters, can leak from a valve, a connection or the unit itself. At night, we make the heater safe, stop the leak and check the fittings. If the heater has failed, we can usually fit a new one the next day.

Electric shower problems. A shower that leaks from its inlet or keeps tripping the power needs switching off at the isolator straight away. We repair or replace failed electric showers.

Hot water faults feel urgent in winter, and we treat a leaking heater near electrics as a priority call.

Gas boilers. We don't work on gas boilers, as that requires a Registered Gas Installer. If you smell gas, leave the property and call Gas Networks Ireland on 1800 20 50 50.

More on water heaters and electric shower replacement.

Pump Failures and Loss of Water

Top-floor apartments, houses on weak mains and rural homes on wells rely on pumps. When one fails at night, taps and toilets can stop working completely.

We check the pump, its controls and the surrounding valves before deciding on a fix. Sometimes a stuck valve or a blocked strainer is the real culprit. When the pump itself has died, we either fit a replacement straight away or restore basic supply until the correct model arrives.

For apartment blocks with a shared booster set, one failure can leave dozens of homes without water. In that case, the management company should call us, and we will prioritise the plant room.

Leaking attic tanks and float valves that won't close also count as urgent. Tank cleaning, on the other hand, is planned work that we book for daytime.

See our pump services page for more.

Safe Tonight, Finished Tomorrow

Most night-time jobs finish in a single visit. Occasionally, though, a repair needs a specific part, such as an unusual tap body, a particular pump or a heater in a set size.

In that case, we make everything safe before we leave. That means no escaping water, working toilets where possible and power off to anything damaged. We then return to complete the job once the correct part is in.

Blocked Saniflo units follow the same approach. We clear the blockage at night and, if the unit is near the end of its life, we discuss a replacement for later.

Many customers like this approach, since it lets us deal with the emergency without forcing a rushed decision on a new tap or heater. You get time to choose, and we get time to order the right part.

24 Hour Plumber for Dublin Homes and Businesses

Homes and tenants. Most night calls come from houses and flats. If you rent, shut off the supply, then let the landlord or letting agent know what has happened.

Landlords and management companies. We attend on your behalf, deal with the tenant and report back after the job. For apartment blocks, we can isolate a single riser or unit instead of the whole building.

Hospitality and retail. Late-opening premises such as bars, takeaways, hotels, B&Bs and forecourts can't simply close for the night. So a leak at 11pm can't wait. Tell us which areas are open to the public, and we'll work around them.

Industrial sites. Factories and warehouses running night shifts need working toilets and water. We can attend during the shift and keep disruption to a minimum.

Whatever the building, our goal stays the same: stop the water, restore essential use and leave the site safe.

How Our 24 Hour Plumber Call-Out Works

  1. You call and describe the problem. We help you stop the water first.
  2. We confirm the hourly rate by WhatsApp, text or email, including the out-of-hours rate, where possible before we set off.
  3. You confirm, and we set off with a realistic arrival time.
  4. We fix or make safe, then test everything under pressure.
  5. You pay on site by cash, card or payment link, while firms may use a bank transfer.

Out-of-hours rates. Our prices depend on when you call. Weekday office hours carry the standard rate. Calls after hours, at weekends and on bank holidays carry a higher rate, since we're working while most people are off.

Every hourly rate appears on our Prices page.

Night rates exist because being available means giving up evenings and sleep. Even so, one out-of-hours visit costs far less than repairing ceilings, floors and furniture after a leak runs all night.

What We Carry at Night

A night call-out is only useful if the plumber can actually fix the problem. So the van stays stocked with the parts that fail most often:

  • copper, plastic and multilayer pipe with matching fittings
  • isolation valves, stopcocks and service valves
  • braided flexi hoses in common lengths
  • cistern inlet valves, flush mechanisms, doughnut seals and pan connectors
  • tap cartridges, washers and a small stock of replacement taps
  • trap and waste fittings for sinks, basins and showers

Larger items, such as pumps, heaters, electric showers and complete toilets, vary too much to carry every model. For those, we make the system safe and return with the correct unit.

Because of the stock we carry, we finish most out-of-hours jobs in one visit. We're also fully insured, and we clean up before we leave.

Report for your insurer. After a leak, many customers need paperwork. Ask us, and we'll send a written report explaining what failed and what we repaired.

24 Hour Plumber Dublin: Common Questions

Do you really answer the phone at night?

Yes. Our phone stays on around the clock, every day of the year. You speak to a plumber, not an answering service.

How fast can a 24 hour plumber reach me in Dublin?

At night, the roads are quieter, so we often arrive faster than during the day. Even so, the exact time depends on your location and any job already in progress. Expect an honest arrival window on the phone.

Which areas do you cover out of hours?

We cover south Dublin, Dún Laoghaire, the city centre and west Dublin, plus Leixlip, Maynooth and Celbridge in Co. Kildare. Late in the evening and overnight, we also travel to north Dublin and the airport by arrangement, when the roads are clear.

Is it cheaper to wait until morning?

Yes, if the water is off and nothing else is at risk. A weekday slot costs less, and we'll tell you honestly when waiting is the sensible choice.

Questions About Night Call-Outs

Can you fit a new tap or heater at night?

Often, yes, when we carry a suitable model. Otherwise, we make it safe tonight and come back to fit the new unit.

The water is coming from the flat above. What should I do?

Contact the neighbour or the management company straight away, as the valve that stops the leak may be in their unit. We can attend either property once someone gives us access.

Will you work in a pub or restaurant after closing time?

Yes. Many hospitality jobs are easier after the last customers leave, so we're happy to arrange a late visit.

Are you insured?

Yes. We're fully insured for every job, day or night.

For public water outages, check Uisce Éireann before you call.
