Emergency plumber FAQ from Emergency Plumber Service, Dublin

Booking an Emergency Plumber

How do I book an emergency plumber?

Phone or text 085 816 7910. Send your Eircode, tell us what has gone wrong and, if you can, add a photo or short video. We then confirm our hourly rate in writing and tell you when we can arrive.

Who answers the phone?

You speak to the plumber, not a call centre. Therefore, the person who takes your call already knows the job when they reach your door.

What should I tell you when I ring?

The address, what is leaking or broken, whether the water is off, and anything about access: parking, gate codes, a key holder or a site contact.

Can I book a non-urgent job?

Yes. Planned work, such as a new electric shower, a toilet replacement or a tank swap, is welcome. It usually costs less when booked for weekday office hours.

Arrival Times and 24/7 Cover

Are you really available 24/7?

Yes. We pick up at any hour: overnight, at the weekend, on bank holidays and right through Christmas, including St Stephen’s Day and New Year. See 24/7 emergency plumber for details.

How soon can you arrive?

Arrival time depends on where you are, the time of day and the traffic. When you call, we give you a realistic arrival window rather than a promise we cannot keep.

Is a night call-out always necessary?

Not always. If you can switch the water off safely and nothing is at risk, a morning visit may do the same job at a lower rate. We will tell you honestly.

Do you work on bank holidays, Halloween and Christmas Day?

Yes, on every one, from St Patrick’s Day and Easter Monday to Halloween night and Christmas Day. Burst pipes do not stop for the holidays, and neither do we; holiday rates apply.

Areas We Cover

Which areas do you cover?

Our core area is south Dublin, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, Leixlip, Maynooth and Celbridge in Co. Kildare, and the north of Co. Wicklow, from Tallaght to Dún Laoghaire. See Emergency Plumber Dublin for every local page.

Do you work in Co. Wicklow?

Yes, we cover the north of Co. Wicklow, and further south by arrangement. Send us your Eircode and we will confirm straight away.

Do you cover Co. Kildare?

Yes. Other parts of Co. Kildare are covered by arrangement, and our regular Kildare towns are Leixlip, Maynooth and Celbridge.

Can you come to north Dublin?

Yes, by arrangement, including Dublin Airport. It depends on traffic and our availability at the time.

Emergency Plumber Prices and Estimates

How do you charge?

By the hour, plus a call-out fee. You get the rate in writing by text or email before we travel, so you agree the terms first. Every rate is listed on our Prices page.

Can you tell me the total cost in advance?

Sometimes a clear photo lets us give an estimate. Even so, that figure is a guide only; you pay for the actual time on site.

Why might a job take longer than expected?

Seized or corroded fittings, hidden pipe runs and poor access all add time. Parking and the walk to the job also count towards time on site. Please mention permits, barriers or long walks.

Do you charge for parking?

Only when we have to pay for it. Pay-and-display, car park or visitor permit costs are passed on at cost, with no mark-up, and we mention them before the visit.

When is the cheapest time to book?

Monday to Friday during office hours. Rates rise for evening, overnight, weekend and bank holiday work. Addresses outside our core area also cost more.

Do your prices include VAT?

We are VAT registered. Rates for households include VAT, and business customers receive a VAT invoice.

Payment and Invoices

How can I pay?

Private customers settle in cash or by card before we leave; we take all major cards, contactless, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Businesses may also pay by bank transfer.

Do you accept cheques?

No, we do not take cheques.

Do you issue invoices and receipts?

Yes. You can take a printed invoice there and then, or receive one by email from our accountant. For every job, we need your full name: first name and surname.

Can my landlord or agent pay?

Yes. When the owner is away, they receive a secure link by text or email, and we stay until it is paid.

What to Do Before the Emergency Plumber Arrives

Where is my stopcock?

In most Irish homes, it is under the kitchen sink. However, older houses sometimes hide it beneath the stairs, in the hallway or near the front boundary. Apartments often have a valve in a utility press or hallway.

What should I do while I wait for you?

Turn off the stopcock, then switch off the immersion if hot water is involved. Move valuables, put down towels and take photos for your insurer.

Water is near sockets or lights. What now?

Stay away from wet electrics. If it is safe to reach, switch off the power at the fuse board; otherwise, leave the room and wait for help.

My ceiling is bulging with water. Should I pierce it?

If it is safe, place a bucket beneath and make a small hole to release the water in a controlled way. Keep clear of light fittings, and do not stand directly underneath.

Emergency Plumber Help for Leaks and Burst Pipes

Can you find a hidden leak?

Yes. We follow the water back to its true source, whether a joint, valve or fitting. As a result, we cut away as little as possible.

My pipes froze. Will they burst?

Not necessarily. Keep the supply off and call us; we thaw the frozen line gently and check for splits before turning the water back on.

What if my stopcock is seized?

We replace it and can add lever valves under sinks and toilets, so you can isolate each fitting in future.

Do you repair leaking traps and waste pipes?

Yes. We also renew perished traps and split waste runs, refit slack collars on soil stacks, and we can swap old iron stacks for plastic. For mixers, see tap repairs and replacement.

Do you install new pipework?

Yes, for kitchens, bathrooms, extensions and utility rooms. More detail is on burst and leaking pipe repairs.

Toilet, Urinal and Saniflo Questions

My toilet keeps running. Can you fix it?

Usually on the spot, because a new fill valve or flush washer cures most running cisterns, and then we flush it several times to check before leaving.

Do you replace toilets?

Yes, including close-coupled, back-to-wall and wall-hung models. See toilet repairs and replacement.

Do you work on urinals?

Yes. We unblock urinals and fit new ones for pubs, restaurants, offices, schools, gyms and sports clubs.

Can you help with a Saniflo?

Yes: we fit new Saniflo macerators and clear blocked ones. However, we do not repair Saniflo motors.

Emergency Plumber Help for Showers and Hot Water

Can you fix my electric shower?

Yes. Electric showers are repaired where that is worthwhile, or replaced when the unit is worn out. See electric shower repair and replacement.

My hot press is leaking. Is that an emergency?

It can be. Turn off the water and the immersion, then call us. Common causes are a failed joint, a weeping valve or a dripping relief valve.

Do you install water heaters?

Yes, including immersion elements and undersink or instant water heaters. See water heater installation.

Why is my hot water brown?

Often, it points to corrosion in ageing pipework. We can check it and advise whether a repair or replacement makes more sense.

Pumps and Water Tanks

Which pumps do you work on?

Booster pumps, shower pumps, well pumps, sewage pumps and submersible pumps. See booster and well pump services.

Do you replace commercial water tanks?

Yes, and it is one of our main services. We replace large storage tanks in apartment blocks, offices, schools, hotels and industrial sites, usually restoring water within a working day.

Can you replace my loft tank?

Certainly, along with its ball valve and float.

Do you clean water tanks?

Yes. If a tank is sound but dirty, we can clean it instead. See storage water tank cleaning.

Gas, Boilers and Drains

Do you work on gas boilers?

No. We are not Registered Gas Installers, so we do not work on gas boilers, gas cookers or any other gas appliance. Please contact an RGI.

I smell gas. Should I call you?

No. Leave the property, avoid switches and naked flames, and then phone the Gas Networks Ireland emergency line, 1800 20 50 50, straight away.

Do you unblock drains?

For drain unblocking and drain surveys, contact our sister business, drainageservice.ie. Blockages just beyond a toilet pan or under a sink are dealt with during a normal plumbing visit.

Emergency Plumber for Businesses and Commercial Clients

Do you work for businesses?

Yes. As commercial plumbers, we look after shops, offices, hotels, guesthouses, B&Bs, pubs, bars, restaurants, cafés, coffee shops, gyms, schools, clinics, care homes and petrol stations.

Can you work outside trading hours?

Yes. Whenever possible, we schedule repairs before opening or after closing to avoid disrupting your customers.

Do you take on industrial work?

Yes. As industrial plumbers, we work in factories, warehouses and plant rooms, following site inductions, permits and safety rules.

Can you work with our facilities manager?

Of course. Simply give us a site contact and any access rules, and afterwards we send a job sheet for your records.

Landlords, Tenants and Apartments

I rent. Can I call you myself?

Yes, many tenants ring us themselves. When we finish, we message the landlord or agent with pictures and a brief note.

Do you work for management companies?

Yes. We work with owners’ management companies on shared risers, pump rooms and tanks, so we look after residential blocks of any size.

What if water is leaking from the apartment above?

Try to alert the neighbour, then call us and the building manager. Meanwhile, keep clear of wet electrics and protect your belongings.

Emergency Plumber Insurance and Trust

Are you insured?

Yes. We are fully insured, and our cover includes public, products and employers’ liability for domestic, commercial and industrial work.

Can I see your insurance certificate?

Of course. Facilities managers and main contractors often ask for it before we start, so we send a copy by email on request.

Can you help with my insurance claim?

Yes. On request, we provide a written report with photos of the damage, the cause and the repair.

Do you guarantee your work?

Yes, for 12 months on workmanship, and new parts carry the manufacturer’s warranty. Clearing blockages is not guaranteed, and neither are fixes that reuse ageing parts; often, fitting a new part is the better choice. Your statutory rights are not affected.

Will you leave a mess?

No. We protect floors, clean up after the job and explain what failed in plain words.

How much experience do you have?

More than 15 years in plumbing. You can read more on our About page.
